Privado ID Spinoff Extends Identity Control Solution Beyond Polygon

Polygon Labs has spun off its Polygon ID service, rebranding it as Privado ID. This move allows the protocol-agnostic service to extend its self-sovereign identity control solution beyond the Polygon network.

Privado ID serves various purposes, including verifying humanity and uniqueness to prevent Sybil attacks, facilitating airdrops and incentives, enabling trading on decentralized exchanges, and fulfilling compliance requirements such as proof of age or Know Your Customer. Additionally, it finds utility in traditional finance for transferring securities, intellectual property, land titles, and other tokenized assets.

Privado ID: A Key Component of Polygon’s ZK Initiative

Polygon initiated the development of its identity solution in March 2022, launching it a year later. Powered by cryptographic zero-knowledge (ZK) technology, this solution ensures data privacy by preventing third-party access to information. It also enables the verification of digital content authenticity, mitigating the risks associated with AI-generated misinformation. With applications spanning across the metaverse, gaming, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs), Privado ID has undergone proof-of-concept evaluations by multinational banks and financial institutions, including Deutsche Bank and Consensys. These evaluations focused on aspects such as interoperability, compliance, and permissioned transactions.

Privado ID has further strengthened its capabilities by integrating with the attestation registry of the Linea zkEVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) blockchain, developed by Consensys. Antoni Martin, co-founder and chief operating officer of Privado ID, emphasized the commitment to remaining protocol-agnostic, highlighting the importance of unified data for blockchain interoperability and enhancing user experience in Web3.

Martin also noted that Privado ID aims to reduce the cost of trust and risk mitigation while expressing the promise to support non-EVM blockchains in the future.

Sandeep Nailwal, co-founder of Polygon Labs, will assume the role of growth adviser for Privado ID. As Polygon’s chief business officer since May, Nailwal will focus on the development of new zero-knowledge (ZK) solutions.
