Burger King UK’s tweet on 9th April has generated a lot of buzz around DogeCoin. “brb I’m making BiteCoin,” the fast food restaurant company tweeted. The tweet drew the attention of the Dogecoin community as Burger King had recently included “doge” in its tweets. The fans believe that ‘BIteCoin’ is a reference to the canine mascot of the cryptocurrency.
On 1st April, another tweet by the restaurant chain was tweeted related to Dogecoin. The chain tweeted, “trying to convince my manager to let me have an office doge.” They are also known to have tweeted “We need doge.” recently. They are actively showing interest in the meme cryptocurrencies which is faring well for them.
This whole frenzy began when Burger King Paris started accepting Bitcoin as its payment method. To this, Burger King UK came in to show their preferences towards the meme coin. The fans are now hoping that the fast-food company will start accepting cryptocurrencies as a payment method. They say that they will ‘gladly’ pay through Dogecoins.
As per CoinGecko, Dogecoin is selling for $0.083237 at the time of writing. This is a 2.3% spike in the last 24 hours. The currency has risen 5% in the last seven days. This hike is also related to the recent Twitter update. Users on Twitter noticed that their home buttons had been switched by the popular Doge meme.
This is not the first Burger King franchise to show interest in the meme coin. Burger King Brazil has introduced Dogecoin payments for its Dogpper dog food in 2021. The restaurant also broadcast an advertisement to promote the food across the country, giving Dogecoin even more attention. Burger King and Robinhood collaborated in November of that year to give away 20 Bitcoins, 200 Ether, and 2 million Dogecoins to consumers in the United States.
It is also not the first time the crypto industry and a fast food chain are interacting online. In January 2022, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated that if fast food giant McDonald’s began taking Dogecoin as payment, he would eat a Happy Meal on TV. McDonald’s appears to have withdrawn its promise, saying that it will take Dogecoin if Tesla adopts “Grimacecoin.”
Regardless of these crypto-friendly activities, it is unclear if Burger King UK intends to allow consumers to pay for meals using Dogecoin at its locations. There has been no official announcement on the subject. A few people have even shown their dissatisfaction, stating it shall be another disappointment like Grimacecoin.
