During a recent interview with Defiant, a prominent NFT platform, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin delved into the critical issue of staking centralization within the Ethereum network. Buterin emphasized the urgency of redesigning Ethereum’s staking mechanism to cultivate healthier mining and staking pools, with the ultimate goal of bolstering the platform’s overall decentralization.
This proposed initiative stems from the challenges posed by the sluggish movement of data availability in off-chain systems, a hurdle primarily attributed to the heightened demands in the near and mid-term.
Notably, Buterin shared insights into an imminent upgrade in the Ethereum ecosystem known as EIP 4844, or Danksharding. This upgrade aims to augment the data map space, elevating it to 16 Megabytes per slot. The subsequent phase will involve configuring parameters and attributes to refine Ethereum’s scalability and efficiency.
In a notable shift toward a more democratic and less disruptive process, Buterin advocated for the implementation of a voting system to govern future changes on the Ethereum network. This strategic move holds the potential to eliminate the need for hard forks, aligning with Ethereum’s continuous evolution to tackle scalability challenges head-on.
