Solana-Based Memecoin Dogwifhat Sees 16% Surge in Open Interest Amid Reversal Speculation
Futures traders are increasing their positions in Dogwifhat, a Solana-based memecoin, as analysts identify a potential reversal pattern. The coin is currently trading 66% below its all-time high reached in March.
Since August 31, open interest (OI) in Dogwifhat futures—representing the total number of unsettled or unexpired contracts—has surged by 16%, reaching $231.48 million, according to CoinGlass.
Market Anticipates Potential Rebound
Dogwifhat’s (WIF) price has declined by 17% since August 25 and is currently trading at $1.57, below $1.90 for the past ten days, as reported by CoinMarketCap. Some traders are optimistic about a potential rebound, forecasting a rise to $2.40, a level not seen since July 30. This potential rebound represents a 52.80% increase from its current price.

Crypto analyst Bluntz highlighted the current market conditions in a September 3 X post, suggesting that the asset is primed for a reversal. “Perfect channel retest on $WIF,” Bluntz stated, adding, “Nobody is ready for the V reversal that’s about to happen.”
Trading Volume and Market Activity
Since September 4, Dogwifhat has seen a substantial trading volume of $327.6 million, nearly doubling that of Shiba Inu (SHIB), the second-largest memecoin by market capitalization, which recorded $160.5 million in the same period.
Pseudonymous trader zer0 also noted the potential for a price increase, remarking on September 4 that Dogwifhat “looks ready for its next leg up.”
Dogwifhat’s Yearly Performance and Future Prospects
The asset has experienced a significant decline of nearly 66% from its all-time high of $4.70, achieved on March 31. Despite a strong start to the year, Dogwifhat has struggled to maintain its momentum.
In March, a crowdfunding campaign aimed to promote Dogwifhat by featuring its mascot on the Las Vegas sphere, raising nearly $700,000. Although the campaign has yet to materialize, organizers remain hopeful it will proceed.
Former BitMEX CEO Arthur Hayes had previously predicted a bullish outlook for Dogwifhat, stating, “the hat stays on while I count to $10.” However, the anticipated altcoin rally has not yet occurred.
Analyst Insights on Altcoin Market
Recent commentary suggests that the expected altcoin season may not materialize as anticipated. Glassnode lead analyst James Check, in an August 29 episode of the Rough Consensus podcast, argued that new crypto traders have prematurely rushed into speculative assets, leading to a less enthusiastic market response. “The joke has been told, everybody knows the punchline, and they’ve just gone straight to the punchline, and it is just not funny anymore,” Check observed.
As the market awaits further developments, Dogwifhat remains a focal point for traders and analysts alike, with speculation about its future trajectory continuing to drive interest.
