TON Foundation Unveils Trustless Bitcoin Bridge

Telegram’s TON Foundation has introduced new infrastructure to integrate with Bitcoin’s blockchain, enhancing BTC’s utility. Known as TON Teleport BTC, this feature announced by The Open Network (TON) Foundation bridges Bitcoin (BTC) and enables expanded functionality for decentralized applications on the Telegram-focused chain.

While decentralized, many blockchains were not initially designed to interoperate, resulting in isolated networks and asset divides.

To address this, networks such as Ethereum (ETH) developed the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). This platform enables the creation of ETH-compatible tools and facilitates connectivity with Ethereum’s mainnet.

Bridges offer another solution to the problem, enabling users to transfer digital assets across different blockchains. TON Teleport BTC, as its name implies, expands on this concept to enhance liquidity and introduce crypto’s largest token into TON’s ecosystem.

According to the TON Foundation, which oversees The Open Network, this bridge allows users to utilize BTC on native on-chain exchanges, lending platforms, and other popular DeFi platforms.

This year, The Open Network (TON) has experienced significant growth alongside the popularity of Telegram mini-games such as Notcoin (NOT) and Hamster Kombat. Its native token now ranks ninth among all digital assets, boasting a market cap exceeding $18 billion. Besides direct access to over 900 million global Telegram users, the blockchain reportedly recorded 470,000 active wallets as of Tuesday.
