SlowMist Founder Issues Warning About Telegram Phishing Scams

SlowMist founder Yu Xian, also known as “Cos” on X, issued a warning to Telegram users about increased phishing attacks within the platform’s ecosystem.

In a recent post on X, Xian highlighted that phishing links and scam bots are proliferating among Telegram users, exploiting the platform’s open-source and unrestricted nature. He emphasized that “the Telegram ecosystem’s openness creates vulnerabilities.”

Furthermore, Xian has identified a new tactic involving “Anonymous Telegram Numbers” aimed at deceiving users into compromising their TON wallets. These numbers closely resemble phone numbers and enable users to create anonymous accounts on Telegram.

The founder of the blockchain security platform also highlighted that attackers can exploit these numbers, potentially leading to complete account compromise and the loss of associated wallets.

Xian recommends implementing additional security measures such as independent passwords or two-step verification.

Additionally, a user with the handle “amoy_Lw” criticized the gaming ecosystem within Telegram, stating, “This gaming ecosystem conflicts significantly with Telegram’s development philosophy.”

He further noted that Telegram’s foundation prioritizes user privacy, whereas games aim to attract users to engage actively.

Moreover, it’s not just mini-games on Telegram that have contributed to the rise in scams. According to a report from crypto.news on June 21, scammers have targeted cryptocurrency exchanges like Binance, Bybit, MEXC, and Gate.io with fake stablecoins on The Open Network (TON).
