In a significant development, HyperPlay, a Web3 game store, has successfully integrated its in-game wallet overlay with MetaMask Snaps, opening up new possibilities for enhanced multichain compatibility and additional features. This integration allows players to seamlessly utilize custom wallet apps directly within HyperPlay’s games, eliminating the need to navigate to a browser wallet for transaction confirmations, as announced on December 19.
HyperPlay, likened to popular PC game launchers such as Steam, Epic Games Store, and GoG, distinguishes itself by incorporating a built-in version of the Web3 wallet MetaMask as an overlay. This unique feature simplifies blockchain transactions for gamers by enabling them to confirm transactions directly within the games.
Previously, although MetaMask Snaps had launched on September 12, there was an initial lack of compatibility with HyperPlay’s overlay feature. However, with the latest software upgrade, the two features are now seamlessly integrated, marking a significant advancement for the gaming platform.
JacobC.eth, the founder of HyperPlay, highlighted the potential unlocked by this integration. Notably, players can now engage with various blockchains that were previously unable to push transactions to the wallet. This includes the ability to use wallets in custom blockchains like Sui, StarkWare, Solana, and others. This expanded compatibility is expected to broaden the range of games where players can utilize a single, interoperable wallet across different platforms.
One concrete example discussed by JacobC.eth involves the popular game Bushi, a third-person shooter featuring game items on the Sui blockchain. Previously, users faced limitations in confirming transactions within the overlay due to Sui not being natively supported by MetaMask. However, with the newly integrated snaps-compatible overlay, players can now install a snap to support Sui, enabling a smoother gaming experience.
Looking ahead, the snaps-compatible overlay holds the promise of even greater utility. Players will soon have the ability to install snaps that authorize games to spend their funds within set spending limits, streamlining transactions for games that involve frequent spending. Importantly, this mechanism ensures user funds’ security, as spending limits will be enforced through account abstraction, eliminating the need for blind trust in the game.
Having raised over $12 million in a Series A funding round in June, HyperPlay continues to evolve, offering integration options for GoG and Epic Games accounts in its interface, with 33 titles under its belt at the time of the funding round.
