Crypto ATM Installations Approach All-Time High

The global number of cryptocurrency ATMs has surged by 17.8% to reach 38,279 over the past year, approaching the record high of 39,541 set in December 2022.

In 2024 alone, 2,564 new cryptocurrency ATMs have been installed, marking a significant turnaround from the net loss of 2,861 machines in 2023, as reported by Coin ATM Radar.

From July 2023 to May 2024, the number of installations consistently rose.

Although installations dipped by 115 from May to June, they bounced back strongly in June with a net increase of 377.

Bitcoin Depot, Coinflip, and Athena Bitcoin lead the cryptocurrency ATM market with 7,543, 5,057, and 2,756 machines, respectively.

Bitcoin (BTC) remains the most popular cryptocurrency, currently trading at $62,817. Bitcoin Cash (BCH) follows at $390, Ether (ETH) at $3,476, and Litecoin (LTC) at $75.10, all featuring prominently in transactions.

Over 82% of the world’s cryptocurrency ATMs are located in the United States, with Canada following at 7.7%.

Australia has experienced a notable surge in installations, increasing nearly 17-fold to reach 1,107 machines over the past two years. At the current pace of installations, Australia is on track to surpass Europe’s 1,584 ATMs.

Other countries with significant numbers of cryptocurrency ATMs include Spain (313), Poland (279), El Salvador (215), Germany (177), and Hong Kong (169).

Romania, Georgia, Switzerland, Austria, and New Zealand also host over 100 ATMs each.

Out of the 193 United Nations-recognized countries worldwide, 72 currently host at least one cryptocurrency ATM.

From December 2022 to July 2023, cryptocurrency ATM installations saw a notable decrease, hitting a low point of 32,764 over the 18-month period.

According to Coin ATM Radar, BitAccess, a cryptocurrency ATM manufacturer, played a significant role in this decline, with its net installations dropping by 26%, from 9,160 in August 2022 to 6,774 by January 2024.
