China’s Insurance Giant Partners with Swiss Crypto Bank

China’s state-backed insurance giant CPIC is teaming up with Swiss crypto bank AMINA (formerly SEBA Bank) to offer investment advisory and banking services. CPIC Investment Management (CPICIMHK), based in Hong Kong and part of China Pacific Insurance Group (CPIC), aims to enhance its crypto sector expertise across the Asia Pacific region through this partnership.

According to a press release on Wednesday, AMINA stated that the collaboration will enable CPICIMHK to provide integrated solutions for the Pacific Waterdrip Digital Asset Funds. These funds include the Pacific Waterdrip Digital Asset Fund I, which supports early-stage blockchain startups, and the Pacific Waterdrip Digital Asset Fund II, focusing on proof-of-stake tokens known for their energy efficiency and security.

The partnership highlights CPICIMHK’s commitment to financial innovation and diversification following its license upgrades from the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong, allowing it to distribute and provide advisory services for virtual asset investment products.

CPICIMHK CEO Chenggang Zhou noted that the firm will offer crypto investment advice, while AMINA will handle on/off-ramping, crypto trading, and custodial services. CPICIMHK initially entered the crypto market in Q2 2023 through a partnership with Waterdrip Capital to launch crypto funds, and the extent of its continued collaboration with Waterdrip post-partnership with AMINA remains undisclosed.
